Our Somerset Historical Society

Our Somerset Historical Society was incorporated in 1988 by the State of Texas as a 501(c)3 Educational Organization. Monthly meetings are on the 4th Thursdays of each month, except for November (the 3rd Thursday) and December, when there is no regular meeting. These regular meetings are held in Somerset’s Texas Community Bank, located at the corner of Somerset Road and Loop 1604, in their conference room at 6:00 pm.

Somerset Historical Society logo represents the transportation that brought folk to the area (covered wagon); the cattle industry that was prominent in the area from the 1700s until today; the Artesian Belt Railroad that was the focus of starting the newest Somerset in 1909; the oil industry that made Somerset the “largest shallow oil field in the world at that time;” and the Old Rock Baptist Church, founded in 1867 in the first Somerset community, now known as Old Somerset, and still a vibrant community of worshipers.
