Curtis Gilliland “found us” back in 2014. A member of the Somerset Historical Society of Somerset, Pulaski County, Kentucky, he wanted to know about those Somerset folk from Pulaski County, Kentucky who settled at Somerset, Texas.
Herlinda Ramos, currently President of the Somerset Historical Society, welcomes you to her home in this video. Here she shares her family’s rich history in this area that began in Texas with the Ruiz and Herrera families. These folk settled San Antonio in the 1700s when it was still El Pueblo de San Fernando de Bexar. Several of her ancestors were also heroes of the Texas Revolution in 1836. One was the Mayor of old San Antonio. One of Herlinda concerns is caring for these ancestors’ graves in the nearby Ruiz-Herrera Cemetery.
